Laser Hair Removal

We at the Royal Wharf Clinic are dedicated to providing safe and effective laser hair removal in London. We’re equipped with the world’s first FDA-approved Alexandrite and Nd:YAG laser for hair removal - the Motus AY.

Laser Hair Removal

Removing unwanted body hair certainly isn’t a new fad. Traditional hair removal routes such as shaving, and waxing can become tedious and result in thicker hair growing back. Thankfully, innovations in medical technology have produced cutting-edge laser hair removal machines that can help get rid of unwanted hair anywhere on the face and body.

Laser hair removal is an affordable, safe, and relatively pain-free cosmetic procedure that permanently eliminates unwanted body hair from a targeted area, all whilst leaving the surrounding skin unharmed. The state-of-the-art Motus AY laser hair removal machine is not only the most painless London hair removal laser but also allows those of all skin tones recognised by the Fitzpatrick Scale to benefit from the Alexandrite wavelengths.

This new laser system utilises FDA-approved Moveo Technology to achieve faster, safer, and more effective hair removal treatments. The Moveo handpiece is fitted with a specially designed 20mm sapphire tip that reflects a minute amount of the energy emitted by the laser, allowing our doctors to produce better results than other systems on the market whilst using less power. NEED TO KNOW

An initial consultation with one of our consultants is required to determine your eligibility for
treatment. During the consultation, our consultant will explain to your the ins and outs of the
procedure including how long the treatment will be, what you can expect during the process,
and the total cost for your London laser hair removal. You can also use this time to raise any
questions or concerns you may have regarding laser hair removal.

We will register you using our system which complies with GDPR and HIPAA regulations. Once registered, you will be asked to fill out a consent form on the
system either at home or in-office and provide any required supporting documents.

Our consultant will then take photos before your treatment to allow for accurate before and after comparison. A patch test may be performed which involves firing a few short bursts of the laser onto your skin to gauge how your skin will react to the treatment.

Providing there are no complications or contraindications, our staff will book you in for your first treatment as soon as possible
Although rare, very few complications may arise following treatment. These side effects should
not limit treatment but may be deemed uncomfortable. The main side effects of Motus AY laser
hair removal treatment include:

Pain (if any) – this new technology is designed to be pain-free. However, those with sensitive skin or who have a heightened sense of pain may experience some discomfort that feels like the snapping of an elastic band.

Irritation – some people may experience redness or itching at the site of treatment. This is completely normal due to the nature of the procedure and should be expected to resolve around 24-72 hours following treatment. Some people may not be ideal candidates for laser hair removal using the Motus AY laser.
Certain medical conditions make the laser unsafe to use on the skin:

Tattoos – laser treatment should be avoided on tattoos, particularly if the ink used is dark. This is because the pigment used in the tattoo absorbs the energy produced by the laser which may discolour the tattoo and cause a burning sensation.

Tanned skin – recent exposure to sunlight or artificial UV rays can cause your skin to divert a significant proportion of the light energy emitted into the skin, leading to burns or blistering.

Inform us of medications you take – certain medications can increase skin photosensitivity, which can lead to the laser treatment burning your skin. Blood thinning medications such as warfarin can interact with laser treatments and cause small haemorrhages in the skin tissue. Please make us aware of all medications you take before your treatment.

RECOVERY

You can resume your daily activities and routine right after treatment. The skin may be red and irritated, but this should resolve in a short period. Make sure to avoid prolonged sun exposure, hot baths, and using perfumed products on the treated area. Do not go to the gym or carry out any vigorous exercise for 24 hours after the treatment. We advise you to wear long-sleeved clothing and moisturise the area twice a day using a non-scented product. If you experience any of the complications listed above, or if you have any late-onset skin reactions, do give us a call so we can treat the matter immediately through a phone or video call, or face-to-face at the clinic.

FAQ

If you have any more questions regarding scar and stretch mark laser treatment in London, then take a look at the following frequently asked questions.
Traditionally, the ideal candidates for laser hair removal were those with fair to light skin with darker, coarser hair. However, new technologies in the Motus AY laser allow us to target all skin and hair types without the risk of hyperpigmentation, making everyone a potential candidate for treatment.
The Motus AY laser hair removal system works similarly to previous models but does so more efficiently with greater comfort. The handheld piece is moved slowly across the areas of unwanted hair where it will deliver short bursts of laser energy. The pigment in the hair follicle then absorbs this energy and converts it to heat, which then destroys a significant proportion of the hair follicle during every session until it is unable to grow hair.
Results vary from person to person, however, most results last for many years with many people experiencing permanent hair loss.
Results are not evident immediately. Naturally, hair growth and loss occur in cycles. We aim to tackle the follicles during the new growth stage, hence the need for repeated treatment. Results will be noticed after the fourth session, and a full effect will be evident following a complete treatment cycle.
During your initial consultation, our staff will give you a comprehensive list of the do’s and dont’s to take into account before your treatment. You should avoid the following before your treatment:

Waxing
Exposure to sunlight
Using makeup and other perfumed products
Using bleach
